Curriculum

Facing the changes in the global economic and trade environment, the innovation and transformation of business models, and the digital and intelligent transformation of enterprises, the role of school teaching is to grasp the industry development trends, cultivate the skills students need to have in the workplace through strategies and plans, and become practical talents who are competitive in the workplace and available to enterprises.

The professional development features of this department include:

1. Implement industrial links, grasp the pulse of the industry, and enhance students' competitiveness in the workplace.

This department promotes the industrial linkage system, which is determined by core competencies, corresponding target industries, job function requirements, etc., and is jointly discussed by industry professionals. As for teaching, through company-specific lectures and joint teaching by industry teachers, students can grasp the industry development trends and the abilities required by companies, and develop them accordingly as early as possible. Through corporate visits and on-site practice, students can find off-campus internships and employment, gain early exposure to workplace business models and operations, and gain opportunities for future employment. Between 2017 and 2019, about 65 students of this department stayed in their original internship institutions through off-campus internships, accounting for 35% of the off-campus internship students in the entire academic year. According to statistical analysis, the employment rate of students who participate in off-campus internships is about 10% higher than that of students who do not participate in off-campus internships.

2. Pay attention to practical teaching and situation simulation to cultivate practical ability

This department attaches great importance to practical teaching, international trade practice, and international trade financing courses. It provides case studies for industry professionals, which are systematically compiled into textbooks. Currently, International Trade Practice has been revised to the 32nd edition, which is a useful tool for teaching international trade practice. Some courses, such as enterprise resource planning, trade exhibition planning, trade information management, etc., emphasize the teaching concepts of learning by doing. Through topic guidance, combined with practical simulations of ERP and CRM software used by enterprises, and workplace-like training and performance, students can cultivate their practical abilities in the professional field of international trade and prepare themselves for the ability to face and solve problems in the future workplace.

3. Promote overseas exchanges and connect with overseas countries to embody international mobility

Under the trend of globalization, cultivating students' international outlook, cross-cultural knowledge, international communication skills and overseas exchanges to reflect international mobility have always been actively promoted by domestic universities and colleges. The department has been promoting overseas visits, exchanges and internships since 2001, hoping to broaden students' international horizons through overseas learning and experience. In addition, the implementation of elite overseas internships (foreign language proficiency threshold requirements) allows students with international mobility advantages to have overseas workplace internship opportunities for 2 to 11 months, and even achieve their ideal of overseas employment. Through cross-cultural, international etiquette, foreign languages, international trade professional English courses and internships in overseas workplace experiences, students in this department can develop their international mobility through the process of developing international outlook, international communication skills, and embodying international mobility.

4. Grasp the new trends in international trade and train new leaders in the trade workplace

This department established a global operations research laboratory in 1992 and introduced the e-concept of enterprise operations research into the curriculum. With the development of networking, digitization and intelligence, new trade forms such as service trade, cross-border e-commerce, and digital trade have emerged, which have changed the operation of trade; the professional development of this department, such as service trade, cross-border e-commerce, enterprise digital transformation and the theoretical and practical application of digital trade have been included in the course. The new course content allows students to prepare for the workplace, meet the needs of the foreign trade industry, and become a new force in the workplace.
